Our Story

  • Established BY people with ABI and their family and supporters.
  • Established to help US help OURSELVES.
  • We understand the challenge of living with ABI and the support families need.
  • Founded by an ABI Carer who’s husband had a severe ABI.
  • ALL our Management Committee members have lived experience of ABI.

Families4Families is a new approach to providing support to families impacted by ABI in SA via the sharing of positive coping strategies, lived experiences and creates a sense of belonging in our Local Support Groups. People living with ABI and their family members have designed, now operate and continually evaluate and improve their own support network. Our Management Committee is derived from our members – and we are ALL volunteers that are passionate about improving the life choices for people living with ABI and their family members and/or Carers.

The Network was originally seed funded by a grant from the Julia Farr MS McLeod Benevolent Fund and supported by Flinders University and its Community Re-entry Program. Since 2014 we are funded as a Disability Support Organisation (DSO) from the NDIA – we are working to bring peer support to everyone living with ABI across Australia!
